Dr. C.L. Wirth We are proud to announce that Dr. Christopher Wirth has joined our faculty ranks. Dr. Wirth earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) while working with Paul Sides and Dennis Prieve on the directed assembly of colloidal particles in an electric field.Prior to joining CSU, Dr. Wirth was a postdoctoral scholar in the Soft Matter, Rheology and Technology Lab (SMaRT) at the Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven, Belgium, where he worked on the hierarchal assembly of nanoparticles onto chemically modified substrates. He has published articles in highly regarded scientific journals, including Langmuir, Physical Review E, and the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science.

Biomedical Engineering Students develop New Technology

BME Program The Office of Research recently approved the filing of a provisional patent to Biomedical Engineering Students Chris A. Gliniecki, Chantale A. Salem, and Craig T. Fisher. A Medical Device they designed under the "Venipuncture Aid Project," will assist nurses and other healthcare practitioners to gain intravenous access more easily and with less discomfort to the patient.

Engineers help patients breathe easier

Engaged with Engineering

The Washkewicz College of Engineering, a private institution founded in 1923, has enjoyed its reputation for excellence long before the founding of Cleveland State University. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at CSU has since grown as an integral part of the degree-granting departments in the Washkewicz College of Engineering. The Undergraduate Program in concert with one of the most successful Cooperative Education Programs in the country, offer an attractive avenue to further your education. Full-time faculty and graduate students work actively in modern Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Research laboratories. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering also administers specializations in Chemical Engineering and Applied Biomedical Engineering (ABE) as part of the Doctor of Engineering Program in the College of Engineering.

In addition to local chemical companies, the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department maintains continuing relationships with The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, The Ohio Aerospace Institute, and the NASA Glenn Research Center.

If you are interested in an Engineering-related profession, CSU is an excellent choice. Contact the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department office at 216-687-2569 for more information and to schedule an appointment with our
undergraduate/graduate advisors. The Career Services Center is also a good source of information.
